1. The Santa Marta Parakeet (Pyrrhura viridicata)
This beautiful, endangered parakeet represents a flagship species for our region. Specifically, it has vibrant green feathers and distinctive red markings under its wings. They usually travel in active, noisy flocks through the high-altitude canopy.
2. The Santa Marta Sabrewing (Campylopterus phainopeplus)
This critically endangered hummingbird is a true gem of the forest. Indeed, its iridescent emerald-green and blue feathers make it a breathtaking sight. It is known for its long, curved bill, which it uses to feed on native forest flowers.
3. The Santa Marta Antpitta (Grallaria bangsi)
Unlike the hummingbirds, this shy bird prefers the dense forest undergrowth. Specifically, it hops quietly on the ground looking for small insects. Consequently, you must walk in absolute silence to catch a glimpse of its round, brown body.
4. The Santa Marta Brushfinch (Atlapetes melanocephalus)
This near-threatened species is easily recognizable. For example, it features a striking black head contrasted by a bright yellow breast. It is very active along the edges of our forest paths in the early morning.

To enjoy the best observation, we recommend starting your walk at sunrise. Indeed, this is when the forest awakens and the birds are most active. Therefore, we advise bringing high-quality binoculars and wearing earth-toned clothing.
Furthermore, the driest months from December to March offer the best lighting conditions. Consequently, photographers can capture stunning images of our resident species in pristine light.
